10 New and Improved Volvo Trucks Join Armstrong's Fleet

In order to help achieve the company’s sustainability targets, Armstrong Logistics has acquired 10 new Volvo FH Aero tractor units to add to our 90-strong fleet.

The new additions continue the long-standing relationship between Armstrong Logistics and Truck & Bus Wales & West. Here’s what Billy Nairn, Managing Director of Truck & Bus, had to say: “We are proud to continue to support Armstrong Logistics with their latest fleet additions. Providing Volvo FH Aero’s with market leading fuel performance to help achieve their sustainability goals and build on their continued success. Trucks are also supported with Volvo Gold contracts to optimise uptime and reduce costs. Our thanks as always to Justin Armstrong and the team.”

The trucks are each powered by a Euro 6-compliant D13TC Step E engine, which produces 460 hp and a peak torque of 2,600 Nm. Volvo’s ultra-efficient turbo-compound technology uses an extra turbine after the turbocharger to reuse excess energy from the exhaust. This allows energy to be converted to torque directly on the crankshaft, creating a powerful and extremely fuel-efficient engine.

Euro 6 represents one of the highest global standards for emissions, safety and technical performance.

The I-Save driveline also stands apart for delivering 300 Nm more torque than the standard 460 hp engine – leading to smoother, quieter rides and improved fuel efficiency, especially on motorways. I-See predictive cruise control, which analyses and adapts to gradients in the road ahead, and I-Cruise with I-Roll, which adjusts speed to further optimise consumption, complete a comprehensive fuel-conscious setup.

Additional economy gains are unlocked by Volvo’s proven 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox, which analyses factors such as speed, weight, road grade, and torque demand to perfectly time every shift.

Aerodynamic efficiency is further aided by Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS), which replaces traditional exterior mirrors. The CMS also increases the driver’s field of view and, when driving with a trailer, deploys auto-panning functionality to follow the rear of the trailer as it turns.

Founder and Chairman Justin Armstrong comments on the impact of the ongoing instability in the Middle East, saying: "efficiency is no longer a 'nice to have' — it’s critical. Investing in technology that reduces consumption, improves performance, and supports our sustainability targets is how we build resilience into the business."

He added: "These units bring exactly that — from advanced driveline efficiency to aerodynamic improvements and driver-focused safety systems. It’s a meaningful step forward for both our fleet and our customers."
