Conflict in the Middle East
Founder and Chairman Justin Armstrong has released a statement regarding the potential impact of the fighting in the Middle East on our operation:
To all our customers,
We hope you're well. I am writing to update you on the rapidly developing situation in the Middle East and the likely impact it will have on global logistics costs, including UK road transport.
Recent escalations in the region have led to significant disruptions across key global trade routes. Multiple carriers have suspended or rerouted services as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Gulf have intensified. For example, major container lines, including MSC and CMA CGM, have halted bookings to the Middle East or rerouted vessels around the Cape of Good Hope due to security risks and Suez Canal suspensions. These changes have already resulted in higher freight rates and the introduction of emergency surcharges by several carriers.
In addition, the closure or restriction of major maritime corridors has caused sharp increases in the energy and fuel markets. Global oil and gas prices have risen significantly as exports from the region face interruption, with Brent crude seeing upward pressure as key supply routes remain constrained. These developments are contributing to increased fuel costs across Europe and the UK.
While these impacts are global in scale and outside the control of any logistics provider, we want to reassure you that we are monitoring the situation very closely. As carriers continue to introduce measures such as emergency conflict surcharges and extended routings, there is potential for cost adjustments in both shipping and inland transport. Should surcharges or rate changes become unavoidable, we will communicate them clearly and as early as possible.
